About
La Premiere Neige D'Hiver was written for conductor Alun Francis over 4 days in the fall of 2010. Taylor was so impressed with Francis' recordings of Milhaud's symphonies that he conceived this piece in Francis' honor. This work is an orchestral tone poem illustrating the "first snow of winter". Taylor uses many old carols and folk tunes in the thematic content. The harmonies are lush, and the celesta and sleigh bells bring a holiday spirit to this work.
