Journey into the Unknown was written in early 2010 within the span of three days. Taylor was leaving Canada for England and frankly nervous, wrote this descriptive work. This work is Taylor's most harmonically adventerous work thus far and features many unusual instruments in the orchestration. These include alto flute, oboe d'amore and basset horn. Curiously there are no trumpets or trombones in the score.
